Caroline Werner
I lived in the Stoughton area (Town of Rutland) for over 16 years. I shop in both Stoughton and Oregon; and my voting district is in both communities, depending on the office being voted on. I've worked in both Stoughton and Oregon, and I have friends in both communities. I worked many years for the State of Wisconsin doing clerical work. I attended the UW-Madison as an adult and completed a Masters degree in Social Work in 1986. I enjoyed working with people with a variety of needs, including people with developmental disbilities and doing case management with seniors. I am retired now; yet I work part time for CapTel, Inc., doing phone captioning for people who are deaf or hard of hearing. As a child raised in a rural environment, I value the resources we have in this area. I'm interested in sustaining our local economy. I know about poverty and social divisions that alienate people from one another. It is important that we all help each other, especially as we move into an era affected by a global economy, global warming and pollution. Our Stoughton AREA Timebank is going to be the connection we need to carry us into the future. As I age (and having worked with seniors) I know I will be relying more on my friends and neighbors. I also know I am a valued resource and am happy to contribute and give of myself, to the best of my ability. I am a volunteer Secretary on the Commission on Aging for the Stoughton Area Senior Center representing the Town of Rutland, a founding member of the Yahara River Grocery Cooperative, the founder of the Friends of Badfish Creek Watershed, and a coordinator for the Stoughton Area Timebank.
